The streets all through downtown, and even some alleys, have recently blown up with murals. St. Pete recently had the ShineOn Festival, dedicated to wall and mural art, but even since then there have been more added, the outskirts of Central are even getting murals now! There are the murals that everyone loves that are used in lots of pictures, like Hoxxoh, on 21st Street and Central Avenue but far more surprising to me was the vast number of walls that have popped up all over.

St. Pete has embraced this art form, business owners have donated their walls, and artists from all over have created masterpieces. The business owners agree to keep the murals up for 1 year and they take a leap of faith on what will be painted there! I was recently educated on just how cool these walls are to our city. Did you know that bloggers and instagrammers are always posting pictures with cool back drops, pictures that feel urban, edgy and cool. Apparently murals succeed in doing all of this! I had no idea that people travel from all over to go to Wynwood in Miami just to do walking tours of their murals. Google searches for people traveling to new city have become murals. Who knew!!! It seems like this is a win all around for St. Pete and the artist community! I admit that some of the walls are kind of head scratchers but overall, they are really an amazing addition to our downtown area.
While you will probably need to hop in and our of the car to see all of these St. Pete Murals, linked here is the St. Pete Mural Tour! What a cool scavenger hunt activity for your family. I mean, honestly, on some even when you have the address for the mural you still have to look for it! You could even play games, like how big do you think this one will be, or can you find the dog, cat, shark?!! The possibilities are really endless and the photo opportunities will make any teenagers’ day!
Let me know, have you seen this one?
